I wholeheartedly recommend RDC for luxury home builds in Whistler!

RDC is an exceptional builder that understands the extremely complicated nuances of building in Whistler, and delivers quality results at all phases of the build process – They will be the only builder we continue to use in Whistler in the future.

For background, we have utilized RDC across multiple projects, including an extremely complex luxury home project where there were major issues to iron out with the city. RDC went to bat on our behalf and delivered better than expected results, resulting in a final build that felt like everything we wanted in a home.

My family purchased the rammed earth house at Whistler from RDC Fine Homes in the spring 2012.

We were impressed by the high quality of design, workmanship and materials when we first saw the house and purchased it. What we didn’t count on, and what has turned out to be a bonus, is the ergonomic wonder of being in the space within the home. Great light, even heat (the HVAC system is organic, sophisticated and effective), and the wonderful aesthetic of the look of the rammed earth, concrete floors, fir trim and incredible post and beam structure.

Ironically, what was supposed to be a weekend retreat has turned into “home”, and the city house has turned into the place we go to do our jobs.

What is further ironic and humbling is that I am a developer and have built the last three homes I have lived in. Acquiring a house designed and built by someone else is at odds with my ego. Regardless, I couldn’t have come close to building on my own what I found through Bob.

I have no hesitation in recommending RDC as a premium builder of great space.

In June of 2009, I went to Bob Deeks to ask his advice on building a home in Rainbow, Whistler. After a little research into other home builders, I decided to choose RDC to build my home. I liked their vision of building green, passive solar design and the extreme care and attention throughout the process to the finer details of the build.

The house is extremely warm in the winter and very economical to run year-round, costing approximately $1100.00 per year. These costs could be reduced if the wood fireplace was utilized more. I can confidently say this is one of the nicest homes I’ve ever slept in due to the air quality and its quietness. I believe this can be attributed to the SIP’s construction, the HRV system, triple pane windows and soundproofing.

RDC made the entire process, both prior to and following up, very easy and made you feel that your needs were first and that the costs were invested into only quality products and materials. In addition, the RDC staff were always very easy to speak with and extremely accommodating when new ideas, questions and changes were proposed. This, for me, made the experience very enjoyable and far less stressful.

RDC’s knowledge and tenacity to build a high-quality green home are very much appreciated, even more now, having lived in it for nearly two years. Their design to maximize living space is far better than anticipated, and I’ve had many comments on how much space the house has for its fairly small 1590 sq/ft size.

In a new development where many homes were constructed within a similar time frame, it was very evident due to the many neighbours’ comments pointing out the differences in quality of this home versus theirs and/or others in the development.

Taking leadership from its Owner and President, RDC is a construction company with integrity. This was the third project that RDC has done for us, and we realized that the values that Bob Deeks lives are reflected throughout the organization. In-service training, product knowledge, innovative technology, and environmentally aware procedures help to ensure a well-built home.

Building a home can be a stressful project for the owner and the contractor. RDC makes it as pleasant and as happy a situation as possible.

In particular, we have made these observations:

Clarity – Bob listens anbd answers directly. “We only have two catalogues, Harlene, expensive and very expensive.” This told me exactly what I needed to know!
Communication skills – Every planning meeting with Laura, the Interior Designer, was followed up with a written summary of our discussion or decisions.

Every Friday during construction, Blair, the Project Manager, and Laura e-mailed a progress report to us with the work projected for the following week.

Ethics – Respect for one another permeates the work environment. We found that the RDC employees and the sub-trades genuinely wanted to do their best for the client and RDC. Every worker we met was friendly, polite, responsible, honest, and skilled at their job. The work site was always safe, clean, and tidy.
Except when we incurred an extra expense, the agreed-upon budget was adhered to. There was no pressure to buy more or to buy higher. Our design wishes, colours, styles, and lifestyles were honoured.

The design of the house was complex and required attention to detail and the ability to develop innovative and cost-effective solutions to various construction issues generated by the structure’s design while still staying true to the architect’s vision for the house. My experience building a home with RDC both during and after the project completion has been very positive, extending from my interactions with Bob Deeks through interactions with the project manager, construction site head and even the general labourers. All were polite, responsive, and professional and took pride in providing a high level of craftsmanship. In addition, they have maintained a good working relationship with me in the period after I took occupancy, being quick to handle any problems with the house.

I am impressed with the quality of the finished product, particularly with respect to the interior finishing work and the exterior trim carpentry. Building a house with RDC was an enjoyable experience, one that I would like to repeat.
