CONSTRUCTION AND RENOVATION TRENDS IN WHISTLER

As we enter the new decade many of us are excited to see what the future holds. With incredible technological leaps forward being made every day the team here at RDC Fine Homes can’t wait to see what the ’20s will bring. This will be the fourth decade that we’ve worked in and we’ve seen major changes over the years.

Looking forward, these are the construction and renovation trends that we expect to see in Whistler and the Sea to Sky Corridor in 2020.

Construction Renovation Trends 2020

GREEN TECHNOLOGIES

As the world is becoming more eco-conscious people are looking at ways that they can make their homes more environmentally friendly. We think that the three environmentally friendly building models that will be most popular in 2020 are: Passive HomesNet Zero Homes and Built Green Homes.

Expect to see more homes orientated south to take advantage of the sun. This allows for a green, and free, way to help heat homes and reduce reliance on heating and lighting systems. We also expect to see a lot of homeowners choose a geothermal heating system. This system uses the natural heat from the earth and transports it to the home. To keep up to date with all the new technologies and building techniques make sure that you follow our blog.

SMART HOMES

We’re living in a connected world now. We’ve got smartwatches that alert the emergency services if we crash our cars, smart fridges that order groceries for us and even cars that drive themselves. The smart revolution has also hit our homes as well.

Some of the new technologies can be easily applied to any existing home. With a smart plug, you can turn some home heating systems on or off. Imagine skiing all morning long on the deepest powder day of the year and simply turning your heating on as your about to start your final run. You’ll return home to a cosy home without wasting energy.

Home safety can also be improved with smart technologies. Using a smart doorbell allows you to see whos at your door through your smartphone. Waiting on an important delivery? Just go about your day as normal and speak to the delivery driver when they ring your doorbell.

The smart home revolution is here, make sure your home is part of it!

CUSTOMERS WANTING GREAT STAFF

One of the biggest deciding factors in whether or not your project will be a success is the team that’s building it. With new building techniques and materials available nowadays, it’s important that your construction team has all the relevant training and experience to make your dream build a reality. We pride ourselves on offering our clients highly trained staff and also training our own staff to be the best around. In 2019 at the Small Business BC Awards, we were crowned the winner of the Best Apprentice Training award.

One of the challenges that many businesses in Whistler face is retaining a fantastic roster of staff. For most seasonal workers Whistler is a transient place that they stay in just for a few years. This means that lots of businesses have a huge turnover of staff every year. Thankfully at RDC Fine Homes, we have a large core of long-term Whistler residents. This means that we know that we can offer our award-winning services year after year.

COST CONSCIOUSNESS

There’s no doubt that Whistler is one of the greatest places in the world to live. Stunning scenery around every corner, world-class skiing, incredible mountain biking and a tight-knit community. However, one of the very few downsides is that it can be more expensive to live here than in other parts of BC. We keep cost at the centre of all of our projects. We know that our clients have a budget and we work hard to make sure that every cent is well spent.

When building or renovating it’s important to consider features that will help you save money in the long run. By properly insulating and sealing your home you can maximise the use of heat created in the home. This helps keep running costs down.

The same can also be said for lightbulbs. Traditional lightbulbs can break easily and have a relatively short lifespan when compared to LED lights. Not only do LED lights last longer, but they’re also cheaper to run. Our knowledgeable team at RDC Fine Homes will be able to advise you on how to make your home more cost-effective.

We’re really excited to see what the next decade brings. If you’re planning your new dream home or renovation get in touch with our team and see how we can help you!
