Bob Deeks (00:00):
“Hey there, Bob Deeks with RDC Fine Homes. I am at one of our newer renovations. Just got started a few weeks ago. You may have seen some photos on this project with regard to the chimney demolition. And as you can see the guys moving back and forth behind me here, as they load the concrete blocks that are coming out of this massive chimney into the disposal bin here, where we’ll send it off to be recycled. So let’s go on inside and have a look at this exciting retrofit on a classic older Whistler renovation.”

Bob Deeks (00:50):
“See here, the shoot that the boys are using as they dismantle the chimney from inside, and then the bricks flow down and come into this landing zone here. And then of course, we unfortunately have to hand bomb this material over into the bin. Of course, those tubes that you see sitting there that was when the bin had to be extended all the way to the roof. There was four, five feet of chimney that extended up above the roof line. So that’s all been taken down. So the chute of course has been lowered here and see everybody properly masked up to address the silica dust from the concrete, making sure we’re all working safe. So let’s go on inside and we’ll have a look at the progress to date.”

Bob Deeks (01:36):
“It’s a good look at our chimney demo from inside. Boys just getting back to work, start to knock the bricks off, better get finished here before they land one on my head. And you can see that we are progressed well in terms of all the interior demos that you’re looking at there, the old kitchen and yeah, demo here. So we will come back sometime in the next couple of weeks. Hopefully when we see this massive chimney gone. Thanks for watching. UPDATE #2 (SEPTEMBER 20, 2022)

Bob Deeks, President of RDC Fine Homes, gives us a tour of a Renovation project in Whistler Cay Heights including new window and heating/cooling systems.

Video Transcript Update 2

Bob Deeks (00:00):

“Hi there. Bob Deeks with RDC Fine Homes. I am up here at our Whistler Cay renovation in beautiful Whistler, British Columbia. We have our preferred window partner Euroline Windows here on site installing their 4700 series triple paned passive house windows. So, let’s go on inside and see the progress to date.”

(00:21)
“So, you may remember this project from earlier in the summer when the boys were taking out a massive masonry chimney. That created a lot more space down below for a new mud room, increased the size of the living room, and helped bring a lot more light from the skylights down into the stairwell and the living room. So, let’s go on inside and see the progress to date.”

(00:46)
“We have one of the new windows. You can look at the sticker on the bottom here. It gives you all the cool performance statistics. So, yeah, exciting to see these passive house rated windows going into this older Whistler home to significantly improve the thermal comfort. Certainly, when you look at these big window units here in the wintertime, anybody close to the window should feel warm and cozy as opposed to the old aluminum frame windows that were in here before that would’ve actually felt very, very drafty. So, looking forward to this impressive performance upgrade.”

(01:25)
“So, one of the additional enhancements to this project is, of course, we’re replacing the old electric baseboard heating system with a modern forced air system. This will also give us air conditioning and will give us heat recovery ventilation. So, not only do we get a balanced ventilation system, but we also get energy recovery as that stale air exhausts out of the house. And right now, I am standing in the addition at the back that will add some office space and an additional bedroom. So, some exciting changes to this older Whistler home here. So, stay tuned, and we’ll bring some further updates as we move a little bit closer to drywall. We’ve got a large steel beam that needs to go in and replace this existing framed wall, which helps significantly inside the kitchen. Sorry for the background noise. And, yeah. If you like what you see, please follow along or subscribe to the channels. Thanks for watching!”
